We are dedicating our registry to protecting indigenous lands and traditions of the Wixárika (Huichol) of Mexico.

Wirikuta Preservation Project

“ This project is dedicated to assisting the Wixárika (Huichol) nation in protecting 500 + acres of ancestral gardens that are now at risk of being destroyed by agricultural & mining companies.

They have been keeping their rituals and traditions alive for thousands of years. Generation after generation they have honored their relationship to the earth and the original elements of life: fire, water, earth and air. They are one of the few indigenous people in Mexico that still preserve their pre-Columbian traditions.

The sacred territory of Wirikuta is located on the ancestral lands of the Wixárika (Huichol) indigenous people. For the Wixárika it is the birthplace of the sun and the territory where their many communities make their pilgrimage. It is also the home of the peyote or hicuri, the cactus that the Wixárika ritually ingest to receive the “gift of seeing”. ”
